Risk Advisor, Technology Practice

Full Time

Job Description

As a Risk Advisor in our Technology Practice, you will work with some of the most exciting and fastest growing technology companies in Canada. By becoming an expert in the technology industry, you will be advising clients on a full range of property and casualty (P&C) insurance coverages and risk management strategies. We differentiate ourselves from a “traditional” insurance broker by leveraging our unique expertise to provide an exceptional and consultative experience at every level of interaction. You will also contribute to the development of thought leadership articles that address timely risk management and insurance topics for the technology industry.

As a member of the larger Commercial Enterprise team made up of practices focusing on other knowledge-based industries, you will also be part of bi-monthly Enterprise Department team meetings where knowledge and experiences are shared amongst all team members. You will have weekly one-on-one meetings where we will check-in on successes, challenges and your personal growth plan. There is a weekly Technology Practice meeting where the sales and service team connect to share technology industry information and check-in on the progress of client renewals.

In this role, you will have three key areas of focus:

  1. Advising: You will advise clients on their insurance coverages and risk controls with the goal of enhancing their overall resiliency as an organization. For our mid-market clients you will conduct a Panoramic Risk Assessment, which is a proprietary approach that allows PROLINK to align our insurance and risk management programs with the strategic objectives of our clients.
  2. Protecting: You will educate our existing clients about their risks, and offer additional insurance and risk management solutions that we feel make sense for them.
  3. Building: You will lead the business development efforts in this Practice with the goal of building a national team that will take PROLINK’s unique business development approach and value proposition to the wider Canadian marketplace.

Responsibilities

In developing and delivering on the continued growth of the Technology segment, your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Cultivate relationships with both large and small technology clients to understand their unique needs, ensure satisfaction, and find ways to add value. To be effective, you will need to:

    • Network – Finding new clients through a range of technology associations, networking groups and personal contacts;

    • Learn – Have a high level of business acumen that will enable you to discuss strategies, challenges, and business risks that technology firms face;

    • Consult – Execute our unique Panoramic Risk Management process to help our clients achieve their business objectives and address their unique risks;

    • Sell – Help our clients understand their unique risk profile, and discuss various insurance products that could assist them in financing their risk with insurance, where it makes sense to do so.

    • Succeed – Be self-motivated to achieve goals. Be disciplined in how you allocate your time.  Be willing to leverage the larger team to learn from others, and share what you have learned so others can learn from you.

    • Be Flexible – PROLINK has a unique sales approach that has generated tremendous success for the organization. You must be open-minded to the PROLINK sales process, and find a way to make it your own.

  • Help clients retake control of the insurance buying process, focusing on performance-based insurance solutions, and working alongside their operations team (accounting, legal, etc.) to help support growth;

  • Present and attend industry and technology-based conferences to identify new approaches, maximize attendee awareness of our services, and enhance your network and knowledge.

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will meet many to most of the following requirements:

  • Education: Must be RIBO Licensed.

  • Experience: A minimum 2-3 years of experience (mandatory) in Account Management, Sales, Underwriting, or related roles in an insurance brokerage or insurance company. Relationship development experience at the senior executive level, and exposure to Underwriting, and/or Commercial Insurance are preferred.

  • Skills: Ability to manage multiple demands, think and plan strategically, and collaborate with and influence others, with effective written and verbal communication skills. Proven success executing sales and marketing strategies, with a history of proactively developing expertise on the industry sector in which your clients operate.

  • Softer Skills: A team player with a client-centric approach, ready to deliver great service. A person of integrity, who is positive, energized, articulate, engaging, empathetic, and approachable. Committed to ongoing development, with the goal of becoming a more valued advisor and a key driver of innovation.

  • Access comprehensive medical and dental benefits that will come in force on your first day as an employee;

  • Relish in the comfort of working from home and from our office (as circumstances permit and require);

  • Grow your career in an organization that loves to recognize and reward its top talent;

  • Work for a company that has the best of both worlds: the professionalism and success of a corporate environment, with the family-oriented and collaborative feel of a small business;

  • Have the opportunity to join many of our employees who are already owners in the firm.
